Replacement laces for safety footwear

A broken shoelace puts an otherwise perfectly good safety shoe out of service. Replacing one takes a few seconds and costs a great deal less than a new pair, certainly on models that have years left in them.

Look at the shape first. Flat laces lie wide in the eyelets and stay done up better on shoes with many eyelets or a hook fastening. Round laces run more easily through the eyelets and are the usual choice on lower work shoes. Length decides how many eyelets you can lace comfortably: a mid-height boot needs a clearly longer lace than a low shoe, and a lace that is too short forces you to skip the top eyelets.

Black is the standard colour and suits almost every work shoe. Anyone buying for a crew takes a pack with several pairs at once, so there is always a spare on site and a broken lace does not cost half a working day.

Other accessories for foot and leg protection sit one level up, including work socks.
